Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono launched in India

Luxury motorcycle brand Ducati India has launched the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono motorcycle in India. The bike is equipped with safety features like traction control system and engine brake control. The bike is offered in two variants – Standard and RVE.

The company has priced the bike at Rs 16.50 lakh ex-showroom. The bike is more expensive than the high performance bikes in the company’s lineup. It is Rs 49,500 more expensive than the Ducati Hypermotard 950 RVE (₹ 16,00,500) and Rs 55,000 more expensive than the Ducati Monster SP (₹ 15.95 lakh).

Ducati’s single cylinder engine bike

Delivery of the bike will start as a complete built unit by the end of July 2024. This bike is the company’s first single cylinder motorcycle since the Ducati Supermono 550 which came 30 years ago.

The reason for the bike being expensive is that it will be exported from Italy and Thailand and has an engine of less than 800cc. Therefore, it will not get tax exemption under the India-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Ducati Hypermotard Design

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is designed on a tubular steel trellis frame. It is equipped with supermoto bike like specifications with a funky look. It includes raised front fender, long suspension, single piece seat and small wheels.

The bike has 45mm fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted forks in the front and fully adjustable rear monoshock suspension in the rear for comfortable riding. It runs on 17-inch Y shaped 5-spoke alloy wheels and has Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires.

For braking, there is a 330mm disc plate in the front and a 245mm disc plate in the rear. It comes with 4-level Bosch cornering ABS as standard. The special thing is that the bike is very light. It weighs 151 kg with fuel and just 159 kg on a full tank, which is comparable to a 160cc bike like the Bajaj Pulsar N160.

Bike Performance

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is powered by a 659cc liquid-cooled Superquadro Mono single cylinder engine for performance, which generates 77.5HP of power at 9750rpm and 63Nm of torque at 8000rpm. With this engine, the 698 Mono is the most powerful single cylinder bike. Its closest rival bike is the KTM 690 SMC R, which generates 74.7HP of power and 73.5Nm of torque.

For transmission, the engine in the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is tuned to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. The RVE variant of the bike gets a bi-directional quickshifter, while in the standard variant it can be purchased as an optional accessory.

Riding Modes

The rider gets the option of three power modes in this bike. Cornering ABS can be used for optimized braking in corners. You can choose from four ride modes according to the riding conditions and take advantage of the traction and wheelie control system. A 3.8-inch LCD instrument cluster has also been provided for easy monitoring and adjustment.

Braking and Suspension

A steel trellis frame forms the foundation of the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono, which is attached to a steel-tube subframe and an aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are handled by adjustable Marzocchi USD forks at the front for precise handling and a Sachs monoshock at the rear for better control and comfort. Braking performance comes from 330mm discs fitted with Brembo M4.32 calipers.

Hypermotard 698 Mono Features

Talking about the features, the bike has a 3.8-inch negative light LCD instrument console which shows speed, tachometer reading, time, odometer and tripmeter reading. The bike has 3 power modes – high, medium and low.

In high power mode, the bike’s full power of 77.5HP is available with quick throttle response. This mode is especially for use on the track. Medium mode also gives full power, but with a more linear throttle response. Low power mode limits the bike’s power output to 58HP and gives slow throttle response.
